One of the most fundamental differences between the modern short story and other stories is the short story's tendency towards poetry, which has caused the modernist story to be called "poetic story" or "lyrical story". In this essay, with the aim of discovering the relationship between the modern short story and the lyric poem, relying on the theory of Eileen Baldeshwiler, this topic is discussed in a descriptive-analytical and testimonial way. Modern short stories have such a poetic quality that the reader is reading poetry. The results indicate that the modern storyteller avoids well-made and cause-and-effect plots and moves away from the common narrative techniques in the novel and instead approaches the common methods in poetry. Features such as: "rhythmic language, being full of innovative works, having a limited scope and a mind-based strain", show the similarity of the modern short story with the lyrical poem. The author of the short story has such a poetic mind that he creatively connects the elements of the story with each other like the elements of the poem and tries to induce unity in the reader. According to Baldeshwiler's theory, the term "lyrical" is more than a description of the structure of the modern short story, it is used to draw attention to the subject of the story and its prevailing tone.
