A Study and Analysis toward Expressionism in Ermia by Reza Amirkhani

Abstract

The twentieth century art has been called as expressionism that reached its climax during the First World War. In this school, the author is trying to reflect his/her inner feelings in response to external reality. The human is centrality of expressionistic stories who is fighting against injustice in search of his / her paradise. This kind of fighting and stability can introduce the expressionistic works as Resistance Literature. Reza Amirkhani is a young author whose works have been placed in the field of Resistance Literature. In his works, the human is the centrality of the stories such as the expressionistic ones. The works were written in the form of a modern novel and the author used the modern techniques for promoting the story by breaking up some of the traditional conventions of the Iranian stories. In Ermia novel, the young character who is seeking justice with his friends tries to change the current world into an ideal community based on expressionism. Being opposed with the previous generation (father and mother), reject the materialistic ideas of the people, discarding the modernity and traditional forms, showing the inner feelings of characters and social pressure governing their life in Ermia story all indicate the effect of expressionism in the works of Amirkhani.
