Abstract

:

The Persian literature books of first and second grade of elementary introduce a list of books which are appropriate for the students of these grades at the end of each book. These books are introduced to all Iranian kids and they are trusted by the parents and students since they are recommended by the department of education. The present study aims to analyze, criticize, and unveil the problems of these two lists. First the two lists were analyzed and criticized based on their form and appearance. In the next stage of the study some of the books’ structural and superficial features, with a focus on fifty story books, were analyzed with a content analysis method using a descriptive-interpretive approach. It became clear through analyzing the lists’ structural and superficial features that the lists lack consistent order. The writers of the lists haven’t paid enough attention in mentioning the names of books, writers, translators, and publishers. The lists were published at the end of books around ten years ago with no change or update over the years and the first edition of 86% of the books were published in the 90s. Therefore, writers, publishers and illustrators from the recent decades are not present in the lists. Finally, most of the writers and illustrators were men; however most main and supporting characters in the stories were women.
